Compress an image to a size limit

Set the largest file size you can use, then choose an image. We’ll adjust quality and, if needed, dimensions to help it fit. Your file stays in your browser.

From your photos or files

JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF

Your image stays on your device. Choose WebP if you need transparency; JPG won’t keep it.

How does the size limit work?

We try adjusting quality at the original dimensions first. If that’s not enough, we reduce the dimensions in steps. This gives the tool another way to reach your limit without dropping quality too far.

Which limit should I choose?

  • 20–50 KB: small profile pictures, thumbnails, and strict upload limits
  • 100–200 KB: photos for forms, small website images, and document uploads
  • 500 KB–1 MB: email attachments and photos that need more detail

A tighter limit leaves less room for detail. Large phone photos may need smaller dimensions as well as a lower quality setting. For a walkthrough, see How to get a JPG under a file size limit.

Questions?

Why is my result a little below the limit?

Encoding varies slightly between browsers. We leave a small margin to help the downloaded file stay under your limit.

Will compression affect the quality?

Making a file smaller can lose detail. We adjust quality first, then reduce dimensions if needed. Compare the result before you use it.

Do you upload my images?

No. Everything from reading the image to creating your download happens in your browser. Your image stays on your device.
