About PicThin
PicThin makes everyday image jobs simpler: smaller files, different formats, and fewer details shared by accident. It runs in your browser, so you can get the job done without sending us your photos or creating an account.
Why we built it
Making a file smaller shouldn’t mean handing it over to a website. Work files, personal photos, and screenshots can contain things you’d rather keep private. PicThin processes them on your device, so there’s no upload to wait for and no copy on our servers.
On your device
Your images never reach our servers. Refreshing the page clears them from the tool.
Use the browser you have
Open PicThin in a modern desktop or mobile browser. There’s no app to install.
A tool for the job
Choose what you need to do and get started, without working through a long list of settings.
What happens to your images
Your browser reads the file into memory and uses its image-processing tools and Web Workers to create the result. You can preview and download it, but it isn’t written to a PicThin database.
How to check that your images stay in your browser
How we write and test our guides
Our guides start with real tasks, like getting a photo under an upload limit. Examples include the settings and file sizes so you can try them yourself. We use format specifications and browser support information when discussing compatibility, and only change an article’s date when its content changes.
