Your browser does the work. Your images aren’t uploaded to PicThin or any other server.

How do I shrink a transparent PNG?

  1. Choose your PNG and start at the default 82% quality. Processing begins automatically.
  2. Compare the file sizes. Want it smaller? Lower the quality and choose “Compress PNG” again.
  3. Download the result and check its edges on light and dark backgrounds. Zoom in on small text and gradients.

Keeping transparency doesn’t mean every pixel stays the same. Below 100% quality, the tool reduces colors, which can create banding. If the result isn’t smaller, it keeps the original.

PNG compression features

Keep the transparent parts

Download another PNG, ready to use as a logo, cutout, or interface graphic.

Use fewer colors

Reducing the color palette can save more space than simply saving the same PNG again.

Check the details

Lower quality means fewer colors. Look for visible bands in gradients and photographic images.

When to use it

  • Transparent logos and icons
  • App interfaces and website screenshots
  • Illustrations and charts with relatively few colors

Questions?

Why is a photo so large as PNG?

Photos have lots of subtle color changes, which are harder to compress losslessly. Try JPG or WebP if you don’t need PNG.

Will the background stay transparent?

Yes. The result stays in PNG format and keeps its transparency channel.

What does the quality slider change?

It controls how many colors are kept. Lower values can give you smaller files, but gradients may show visible bands.
