JPG compression features
Find the right balance
Start at 80% quality, then check the detail. That’s often a useful first step for a smaller photo.
Made for photos
JPG works well for photos with lots of detail and smooth color changes. Choose another format if you need transparency.
Fine-tune one photo
Work on one image here, or head to the home page to compress a whole batch.
When to use it
- Phone and camera photos
- Email attachments and website images
- Smaller JPGs at the same dimensions
Questions?
Where should I set the quality?
Try 75–85% for an everyday photo. Raise it if faces, text, or edges look rough.
Should I compress the same JPG again?
Start from the original each time. JPG is lossy, so repeatedly saving a compressed copy can lose more detail.
Can I keep a transparent background?
Not with JPG. Choose PNG or another format that supports transparency, such as WebP.
